This comforting Amish Hamburger Steak Bake features juicy hamburger steaks smothered in a creamy, flavorful sauce and baked to golden perfection. It’s a simple yet satisfying meal that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner.

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes, prepared
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Pour the soup mixture over the ground beef and vegetables in the skillet. Stir to combine.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the casserole is heated through.
  10. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with a side of steamed green beans or a simple salad for a complete meal. For a richer flavor, use cream of celery soup instead of cream of mushroom.
