Apple and Cranberry Grilled Cheese

A delightful twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich featuring crisp apples and tangy cranberries for a sweet and savory flavor combination perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup granny smith apple, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cranberry sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

Instructions

  1. Spread butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
  2. On the unbuttered side of one slice, spread the cranberry sauce and Dijon mustard if using.
  3. Layer the shredded cheddar cheese over the cranberry sauce.
  4. Arrange the apple slices evenly on top of the cheese.
  5. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium heat and grill the sandwich for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Remove from skillet, let cool slightly, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

For added texture, consider adding a handful of arugula or swapping cheddar for gouda to enhance the smoky flavor.
