Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Crust:
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • For the Filling:
  • 1 1/2 cups apple butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • For the Cinnamon Whipped Cream:
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the Crust: In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, mixing until dough just comes together. Form into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, whisk together apple butter, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Assemble the Pie: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a 9-inch pie plate. Crimp the edges.
  4. Bake the Pie: Pour the apple butter filling into the prepared crust. Brush the crust with the lightly beaten egg. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set. Let cool completely before serving.
  5. Make the Cinnamon Whipped Cream: In a cold bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  6. Serve: Top the cooled pie with cinnamon whipped cream and serve.

Notes

For an extra touch, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top of the whipped cream before serving. You can also use store-bought pie crust for convenience.
