Applesauce Cake

A moist and flavorful applesauce cake made with warm spices and a tender crumb, perfect as a comforting dessert or snack.

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • ½ cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the applesauce and vanilla extract until combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  7. Fold in nuts and raisins if using.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or cream cheese frosting for extra indulgence.
