Delicious Banana Cream Pie

This classic banana cream pie features layers of creamy vanilla custard, fresh bananas, and a cloud of whipped cream, all nestled in a flaky pie crust. It’s the perfect comforting dessert for any occasion.

  • 1 (9-inch) pre-made graham cracker pie crust
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 4 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the custard: In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a simmer and thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low. Slowly whisk about 1/2 cup of the hot mixture into the egg yolks to temper them.
  5. Pour the tempered egg yolks back into the saucepan and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute more.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  7. Assemble the pie: Arrange half of the banana slices on the bottom of the pie crust.
  8. Pour half of the custard over the bananas.
  9. Arrange the remaining banana slices over the custard and pour the remaining custard over the bananas.
  10. Cover the pie with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  12. Make the whipped cream: In a chilled bowl, beat heavy cream with powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  13. Spread the whipped cream over the chilled pie.
  14. Garnish with additional banana slices, if desired.
  15. Serve chilled.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or cream instead of milk in the custard. You can also sprinkle chopped nuts or chocolate shavings over the whipped cream for added texture and flavor.
