  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 bag (about 36 pieces) chocolate or peanut butter candy kisses

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually blend dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are set but centers are still soft.
  8. Immediately press one candy kiss in the center of each cookie. The cookie will crack slightly around the edges.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For a fun twist, try using different flavored candy kisses like caramel or dark chocolate. Serve with a cold glass of milk for the perfect pairing.
