  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract until well incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a thick dough forms.
  6. If using, fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  7. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Using a tablespoon, scoop dough and roll it into balls.
  9. Roll each ball generously in powdered sugar and place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the cookies have spread and the tops are crinkled.
  11. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra festive touch, drizzle melted white chocolate over the cooled crinkles or add a few crushed peppermint candies on top.
