  • 6 saltine crackers
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  4. Allow the mixture to boil for 3 minutes without stirring to create a toffee-like consistency.
  5. Carefully pour the hot sugar mixture evenly over the crackers, ensuring all crackers are coated.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes to set the caramel layer.
  7. Remove the tray from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee.
  8. Let the chocolate sit for a few minutes until softened, then spread it into an even layer using a spatula.
  9. Sprinkle the chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt over the melted chocolate.
  10. Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature, then break into pieces and serve or package for gifting.

Notes

For an extra festive touch, drizzle white chocolate over the cooled candy or add crushed peppermint candies on top before the chocolate sets.
