Freshly Prepared Cottage Cheese Tots on White Plate

Cottage Cheese Tots are a deliciously crispy and protein-packed snack made from simple ingredients, perfect for a healthy appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives (optional)
  • Cooking oil spray or 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine cottage cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, eggs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chopped chives.
  2. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined and the mixture holds together.
  3. Using your hands or a small ice cream scoop, shape the mixture into small tots, about 1 inch in length.
  4. If baking, preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place tots on the sheet and lightly spray or brush with oil.
  5. Bake tots for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Alternatively, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry tots for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  6. Remove tots from oven or skillet and drain on paper towels if fried.
  7. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For an extra crispy texture, you can freeze the tots for 30 minutes before baking or frying. Serve with ranch or spicy ketchup for a tasty twist.
