Fried Sardines

Crispy and flavorful fried sardines make a delicious and quick seafood snack or appetizer, perfectly seasoned and lightly battered for a golden finish.

  • 500g fresh sardines, cleaned and gutted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Fresh lemon wedges for serving
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sardines under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Lightly dredge each sardine in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess.
  5. Carefully place sardines in the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
  6. Remove sardines using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra crispiness, soak sardines briefly in milk before dredging in flour, or serve with a spicy aioli as a dipping sauce.
