Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 packet (1 oz) onion soup mix
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch dressing mix
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons cold water (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken breasts in the crockpot.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the chicken broth, onion soup mix, ranch dressing mix, and cream of chicken soup.
  3. Pour the mixture over the chicken in the crockpot.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  5. Remove the chicken breasts and shred them with two forks.
  6. Return shredded chicken to the crockpot and stir in sour cream and 1/4 cup water.
  7. If a thicker gravy is desired, mix cornstarch with cold water to make a slurry and stir into the crockpot. Cook on high for an additional 15-20 minutes until thickened.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve warm over rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta.

Notes

For extra flavor, add sautéed mushrooms or fresh herbs like thyme or parsley before serving.
