This Dutch Caramel Apple Pie features a buttery streusel topping and a rich caramel sauce that perfectly complements the tart apples. It’s a comforting and delicious dessert that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 recipe pie crust, for a 9-inch pie
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce, store-bought or homemade

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat.
  3. Roll out the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie plate.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the 1 cup flour and brown sugar for the streusel topping. Cut in the cold butter with a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, cover the pie loosely with foil.
  8. Let the pie cool slightly before drizzling with caramel sauce.
  9. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For an extra touch, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
