chicken parmesan

Chicken Parmesan is a classic Italian-American dish featuring crispy breaded chicken covered in marinara sauce and melted cheese, perfect for a comforting dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup olive oil or vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice chicken breasts in half horizontally to create 4 thinner cutlets.
  3. Season chicken with salt and pepper.
  4. Set up a breading station: place flour in one shallow bowl, beaten eggs in a second, and a mix of breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese in a third.
  5. Dredge each chicken cutlet first in flour, then in eggs, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken cutlets for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Place fried chicken on a baking sheet. Spoon marinara sauce evenly over each piece and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
  8. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a layer of prosciutto under the cheese or serve with spaghetti and garlic bread.
