French Toast Casserole

A comforting French Toast Casserole perfect for breakfast or brunch, featuring layers of rich custard-soaked bread baked to golden perfection with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla.

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Butter, for greasing the baking dish
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing lightly to soak the bread.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  6. Before baking, sprinkle the top with brown sugar and chopped nuts if using.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  8. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then serve warm with maple syrup.

Notes

For an extra indulgent touch, add a drizzle of caramel sauce or fresh berries on top before serving.
