This Garlic Parmesan Green Bean Casserole elevates the classic side dish with a savory, cheesy twist. Fresh green beans are tossed in a creamy garlic Parmesan sauce and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup French fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Steam or boil green beans until crisp-tender, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well.
  3. While green beans are cooking, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Whisk in flour until smooth. Gradually whisk in milk until there are no lumps.
  5. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper until cheese is melted and smooth.
  7. Add green beans to the sauce and toss to coat.
  8. Pour the green bean mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  9. Top with French fried onions.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch of flavor, sprinkle a little red pepper flakes on top before baking.
