  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and molasses to butter mixture; beat until combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat well.
  7. Place the coated dough balls on prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until cookies are set and crackled on top.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra festive touch, drizzle melted white chocolate over the cooled cookies or add a pinch of black pepper to the dough for subtle heat.
