Green Bean Casserole

A classic American side dish featuring tender green beans baked in a creamy mushroom sauce topped with crispy fried onions, perfect for holiday dinners or everyday meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and blanch the green beans for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix well.
  4. Add the green beans and 2/3 cup of the French fried onions to the soup mixture, stirring to coat evenly.
  5. Pour the mixture into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining French fried onions (and cheddar cheese, if using) over the top.
  7. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes or until bubbling and golden on top.
  8. Remove from oven and let sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a teaspoon of garlic powder to the mushroom sauce or topping the casserole with crispy bacon bits before baking.
