homemade graham crackers

These homemade graham crackers are so much better than store-bought! With a hint of honey and cinnamon, they’re perfect for snacking or making s’mores.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together honey, brown sugar, and milk.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times until it comes together.
  6. Divide the dough in half. Roll out one half of the dough to about ⅛ inch thickness.
  7. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut the dough into squares or rectangles.
  8. Transfer the crackers to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Poke holes in the crackers with a fork.
  10. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.
  11. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  12. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use brown butter. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
