jam donut focaccia

Jam donut focaccia is a delightful fusion of Italian bread and classic jam-filled donuts, offering a soft, fluffy texture with a sweet fruity center perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2/3 cup fruit jam (strawberry or raspberry recommended)
  • Vegetable oil for greasing
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients; mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Evenly drop teaspoons of jam spaced apart over the dough.
  8. Using your fingers, gently press down around each dollop of jam to create dimples and slightly encase the jam in the dough, leaving some jam exposed.
  9. Cover and let the dough rise for another 20 minutes.
  10. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool slightly, then dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For an extra indulgence, drizzle warm glaze or sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top before serving.
