Kashmiri Pink Chai

Kashmiri Pink Chai is a traditional, fragrant tea known for its unique pink color and rich blend of spices, perfect for warming up on a cold day.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons green tea leaves (preferably Kashmiri green tea)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoons crushed almonds and pistachios
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • Salt, a pinch
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil and add the green tea leaves.
  2. Add the baking soda; continue boiling and stir constantly until the tea turns a deep red color.
  3. Add the milk to the pot and bring to a simmer, stirring carefully.
  4. Add cardamom and a pinch of salt.
  5. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the tea turns a pink shade.
  6. Strain the tea into cups.
  7. Garnish with crushed almonds and pistachios and add sugar as desired.

Notes

For an authentic experience, use Kashmiri green tea leaves and serve with traditional walnut or almond breads.
