Delicious Homemade Maple Cream Pie

This Maple Cream Pie is the ultimate comfort dessert. A flaky crust is filled with a rich, creamy maple custard, perfect for a sweet ending to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Crust:
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • For the Filling:
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Maple sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Make the Crust: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add the ice water, mixing until the dough just comes together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a 9-inch pie plate, trim the edges, and crimp.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line the pie crust with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the weights and parchment paper and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
  5. Make the Filling: In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, milk, maple syrup, sugar, and salt. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and cornstarch until smooth.
  7. Slowly whisk a small amount of the hot cream mixture into the egg yolk mixture to temper it, then pour the egg yolk mixture into the saucepan.
  8. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the filling thickens and comes to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  9. Pour the filling into the cooled pie crust. Smooth the top.
  10. Cover the pie with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the filling to prevent a skin from forming. Chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  11. Before serving, dust with maple sugar, if desired.

Notes

For an extra touch, garnish each slice with a dollop of whipped cream and a drizzle of maple syrup.
