Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4-6 tablespoons ice water
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together.
  4. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Prick the crust all over with a fork.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  6. While the crust is baking, prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, whisk together brown sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt.
  7. Stir in the pecan halves.
  8. Pour the pecan filling over the pre-baked crust.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and lightly golden.
  10. Let cool completely in the pan before lifting out using the parchment paper overhang.
  11. Cut into bars and sprinkle with flaky sea salt before serving.

Notes

Serve these bars slightly chilled or at room temperature. For an extra touch, add a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
