A classic comfort dish featuring tender sliced potatoes baked in a creamy, cheesy sauce until golden and bubbly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes (about 4 medium potatoes)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking and stirring until sauce thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  6. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  7. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
