Shrimp Dirty Rice

Shrimp Dirty Rice is a flavorful Cajun-inspired dish featuring tender shrimp, savory spices, and a medley of vegetables mixed with fluffy rice for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1/2 lb ground pork or beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground pork or beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. Add the onion, green bell pepper, celery, and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute to bloom the spices.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Mix in the cooked rice and chicken broth. Stir well to combine all ingredients and heat through.
  6. Remove from heat and fold in green onions and fresh parsley.
  7. Serve warm, garnished with additional parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra depth of flavor, try adding a splash of hot sauce or a dash of Worcestershire sauce before serving.
