Sour Cream Chocolate Loaf Cake

A rich and moist chocolate loaf cake made with creamy sour cream, delivering a perfectly tender crumb and deep chocolate flavor in every bite.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in the dry ingredients alternately with sour cream, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth. If desired, fold in chocolate chips.
  7. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For an extra indulgent touch, serve slices with a dollop of whipped cream or a drizzle of chocolate ganache.
