These Sourdough Discard Cinnamon Sugar Twists offer a deliciously sweet and crunchy treat, perfect for using up your sourdough starter discard in a creative way.

  • 1 cup sourdough starter discard (unfed)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Additional sugar and cinnamon for coating (about 1/4 cup sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon cinnamon)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sourdough discard, flour, sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and salt until a soft dough forms.
  3. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a 12×10 inch rectangle.
  4. Brush the dough evenly with the beaten egg.
  5. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the dough.
  6. Cut the dough into 12 strips lengthwise, then twist each strip several times and place on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving for a crunchy, sweet snack.
