Twisted Christmas Cookies

These Twisted Christmas Cookies are a fun and festive treat perfect for holiday baking. Their unique shape and delicious flavor make them a standout addition to any cookie platter.

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Red and green food coloring
  • Sprinkles, for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Add red food coloring to one half and green food coloring to the other, mixing well.
  6. Wrap each dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Roll out each color dough to about ¼ inch thickness. Cut into strips.
  9. Twist a red strip with a green strip to create a twisted cookie shape.
  10. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  11. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  12. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  13. Decorate with sprinkles while still slightly warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of almond extract to the dough along with the vanilla. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
