Valentine Sugar Cookies

Homemade Valentine Sugar Cookies on White Marble

Delightfully soft and buttery Valentine Sugar Cookies decorated with festive icing, perfect for sharing love in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
  • Red and pink colored icing for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Add buttermilk one tablespoon at a time until dough is soft but not sticky.
  6. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
  7. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
  8. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
  9. Let cookies cool completely on wire racks before decorating with red and pink icing.

Notes

For extra sparkle, sprinkle edible glitter or colored sugar on top of the icing before it sets.
